It was Christine’s wish to have her engagement photos taken at a location in San Fransisco that fit her “formal” engagement session vision. Now you can look formal anywhere. Right after the engagement session, I saw a bride a groom come into the coffee shop I was at, and the photographer took some pictures of them all dressed up while drinking coffee! Simplicity is adequate, but I knew that Christine and Derick wanted their engagement session location to match their stunning and smoking formal look, so I suggested the popular (for an excellent reason) San Fransisco’s Palace of Fine Arts.
Daniel and Michelle told me during our consultation that they had just gone to the mountains with their two huskies so that they could enjoy the snow and cold weather. When the suggestion arose to have their engagement session at Pinecrest Lake, I could not contain my excitement. If you have never been or heard of Pinecrest Lake, you have to visit! Summer and Fall are hands down the best seasons to explore. However, because it is a favorite place, more people are around for their family vacations so in this scenario a Pinecrest Lake winter engagement session became the unexpected ideal.
Every couple wants the WOW FACTOR when it comes to shooting their engagement session. If you have never been to San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts, you would know that this place is the definition of stunning! Derick & Christine had said that they wanted a formal engagement and I knew that this was the place I had to recommend them. Although far away, Christine’s dress in this shot is killer and brought sexiness to a broad perspective view that can completely lose the main subject altogether.
Weeks out from Trey and Jaclyn’s engagement session at San Fransisco’s Baker Beach there was a constant watch over the weather reports and predictions for the day of the photo session. San Fransisco is of course known for unpredictable weather patterns, so hoping that the day you’ve chosen to travel to the iconic city with the Golden Gate bridge can be a gamble. Thankfully the day chosen was partly cloudy enough to allow in enough sun for their weather perfect engagement session at Baker Beach!
For couples who love the ocean but not the beach, I highly recommend having your photo session near the Sutro’s Bath area in San Francisco. Unfortunately one of the more uncontrollable aspects of the area is the weather, but lucky for Jared and Janessa the sweater was cleared of clouds and the cotton candy sky was at its fullest.
When Lipika messaged me about wanting to recreate their marriage proposal at Pacifica State Beach south of the San Fransico area that also has the Taco Bell on the beach, I was beyond excited not only photograph their session but finally meet Alex and Lipika in person! We have never met in person before, but have been following each other’s Instagrams for some time commenting on one another’s life events.
Being completely honest here: from looking at Alex & Amy’s naturally posed photos from their Yosemite National Park engagement session, even I could not tell that they were worried about looking awkward or that they did not look great on camera.
With as much planning and perfectly timed schedules invested from Alex, Amy and myself, nothing could have stopped us, not even the HUGE storm that was scheduled to roll in, from keeping this EPIC engagement shoot from happening in California’s Yosemite National Park!
An outdoor engagement session is unique in itself, so we have provided some outfit ideas based on weather and locations. Are you planning on having your photos taken near a beach, national forest, or local park? No matter what, these tips and ideas will help you figure out what works for you.
Capturing this engagement session with Zared and Jennifer reminded me of the simplicity of capturing couples in a genuine and unique way to showcases who they are as a couple. Not one couple is alike. As a creative, it is my goal to retell every story in a personal way that reminds each couple 40, 50, 60 years from now, why they love each other.
