I had a blast shooting this Jon and Kelly’s engagement shoot in the Marin Headlands near San Fransisco. These two were so easy-going, fun and hilarious to be around and capture their personalities and love for each other. Kelly submitted to our Free Engagement Giveaway and told me their story. Instead of re-writing their story, I thought it best to be shared from her perspective!
P.S. Fun fact that Kelly made her own bouquet! TALENTED!
Jon and I met in college, not how most do. I went to school at the University of Washington in Seattle, he went to UC Riverside in Riverside, California. We both were a part of the same Christian fellowship group (Asian American Christian Fellowship) that had branches at both of our schools, along with many others along the west coast. Both of us were asked to be on the leadership teams of our schools for our junior years of college. The summer before the 2014-2015 school year started, AACF hosts a big week-long leadership conference. We shook hands, and that was pretty much it. I called him the wrong name next time I said hi to him, but Jon didn’t even really remember me from that conference. In September of 2014, a group of our friends that we got close to decided to make a trip to Seattle. Jon came along because he was close friends with the people who were coming to Seattle from California. I and two other UW friends hosted our 8 California visitors and played tour guide for the entire week. Jon and I hit it off (our friends say it seemed like we were following each other around all week), and he ended up postponing his flight home to ask me on a date! We continued dating long distance through our last two years of undergrad, one year of post-grad (for Jon) and through my one year master’s program for teaching (me). In October of 2017, on one of Jon’s many trips to Seattle, he proposed at the same spot he initially asked me on our first date. Jon is still living and working in the Bay Area and I am working in the Seattle area as a first-grade teacher. Our long distance will finally come to an end in June after Jon has been at his company for over a year and I have time to help move him up (gotta wait until the end of the school year). We’ve been blessed in this long distance relationship – our families have met on multiple occasions, we now get to see each other ever 3 weeks, and we’ve made some AMAZING, supportive friends all across California and Seattle.
